Almanac

The almanac is a valuable business tool that is free to all members. It enables members to benchmark thier facilities against those in the region. The changes evidenced in the data sets between each almanac provide information on, not only where our industry has been, but also where it is heading. With 9 years of historical data to call upon, the industry is now developing some solid statistical trends that when used, in conjunction with your own statistics and other information sources, provides an invaluable planning resource.

The Almanac is independently developed by Dr. Julian Wang, from the School of Computing and Mathematics in the University of Western Sydney. All survey results are sent directly and anonymously to the university to ensure integrity of the data.

The Almanac continues to be a most sought after document for new entrants to the industry, property developers and people involved in financing or valuing self storage businesses.

This years Almanac shows some interesting trends related to the growing maturity of the industry. There has been an increase in the number of full time non-resident managers employed, and on site managers have decreased considerably. The use of management companies has also increased significantly over previous years, as has the use of casual labour. It is also interesting to see that the percentage of commercial customers within industry continues to rise.
