The Self Storage Association of Australasia (SSAA) was founded in 1990 by a small group of facility operators. It has now grown into a professional industry body representing more than 1100 centres across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Membership is widely recognised as an important asset aiding the growth, credibility and profitability of self storage businesses. The Association is continually expanding and developing the range of services and benefits provided to members to meet their needs. Both established and newer operators have found that they benefit from an active Association that promotes, educates and represents them. To represent the interests of the Self Storage Industry. To protect and foster the development and success of the industry. THE GOALS 1. To strengthen the position of the Self Storage Industry as the provider of storage solutions to individuals and businesses in the region 2. To assist members maximise the return on their investment in the self storage industry 3. To strengthen the position of the SSAA within the broader storage and propetry industry 4. To maintain the self regulated status of the industry and have the SSAA maintain the industry standards and benchmarks and be recognised as such 5. To provide effective communication, education and training to members in order to maintain industry standards and profitibaility. Membership Benefits Standard (and Managed) Self Storage Agreement and Manual of Advice and Procedures A Standard Self Storage Agreement has been drafted by the Association's legal advisers to assist in protecting operators from liability in relation to customers. It is regularly reviewed in the light of experiences. This Agreement is made available to members for their protection and to increase the credibility of the industry. The manual supports the agreement and provides guidelines for industry "best practice". The managed self storage agreement is for those times when you need to “keep the keys” of a storers unit and protects you from the various statutes that govern this type of relationship. Benchmarking
A totally independent academic institution conducts a regular quantitative assessment to enable participants to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to establish industry bench marks against which to measure performance. For the fisrt time in 2006 there will also be a comprehensive demand study taken of the industry and what drives its customers to choose a storage solution. Annual Convention & Trade Show This is the premier event for the industry and is held at various locations around Australia and New Zealand. It allows members to hear from relevant industry and non-industry speakers, and talk with local and overseas suppliers about the latest ideas, products and services for the self-storage industry. The Insider is published six times a year and provides coverage of industry issues, events, trends, news, advice and educational material. Regional Meetings
Meetings of members are regularly held in New Zealand as well as each Australian state, with informative speakers and trainers who provide useful information to help members reduce costs and increase facility income. They also provide a forum for local issues as well as grass roots discussion with colleagues.
